The Human Services Department (formerly known as Resources Development) was established in 1974 through City ordinance to serve as the administrative umbrella agency for the City's social service departments and to ensure the delivery and coordination of human services for Bridgeport residents.
Services provided:
- Administer social services programs currently funded under the Human Services Umbrella
- Identify human service needs and develop strategic plans to meet those needs
- Work with community agencies and other City departments to maximize the delivery of services to the community
- Initiate collaborations to aggressively pursue new grant and other funding opportunities
- Ensure the proper administration of over $2.5 million in State and federally funded grants including CDBG Public Service programs
- Advocate for adequate funding and coordinate youth programs through the City's Youth Service Bureau and Mayor's Youth Advisory Board
- Serve as liasion for the State's Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit program.
