Birth Certificates
The office of Vital Records issues official copies of Birth Certificates for all persons born in Bridgeport, CT. You have the choice of obtaining two distinct types of birth certificates:
- A certified copy of a birth certificate can be obtained for a fee of $20 per copy.
- A smaller pocket-sized copy, which is not considered to be a legal document, can be obtained for a fee of $15 per copy.
All records released from this office are certified. Telephone or email verification of any information concerning the birth or birth record of a person is prohibited by law.
How to Obtain a copy of a Birth Certificate
In Person
To obtain a copy of a birth certificate in person, visit the Vital Records office with acceptable forms of ID. Please consult our list of acceptable forms of identification.

To offer online ordering options, the City of Bridgeport has partnered with an independent company to provide this service. You can use the VitalChek Birth Certificate portal, to complete the entire process online.
Note: An additional fee is charged for using this service. All major credit cards are accepted through the online portal.
