Please Note:

  • The ATN Applicant Transaction Number received from the State is NOT the Pistol Permit Application. 
  • Bridgeport Police Department does NOT accept electronic pistol permit applications. Applications must be submitted in person.  
  •  The 60 Day Temporary Pistol Permit Application must be submitted in person (directly to a staff member), at the Permits window, at 300 Congress Street during hours above.
  • You MUST be a Bridgeport Resident to apply for a 60 Day Temporary Pistol Permit.

Public Notice-Applications to Carry Pistols and Revolvers

On 6/6/2023, Public Act 23-53 (House Bill 6667) was signed into Connecticut law. Sales of so-called “other” and “pre-ban” weapons, unless pursuant to an exception, are now prohibited. Follow the link to File No 841 with the final text and summary of each section. File No. 841

Under the State of Connecticut General Statutes, citizens have:

  • A right to request and obtain an application to apply for a permit to carry a pistol or revolver.
  • A right to submit an application for a permit to carry a pistol or revolver no more than one week after their request to do so.
  • A right to be informed, in writing, of the result of their application to carry a pistol or revolver within eight (8) weeks of the submission of the application.
  • A right to file an appeal in the event of a denial of a permit for the carrying of a pistol or revolver.
  • A state and federal constitutional right to own, possess and carry a firearm for the protection of the individual’s home or family as the individual so lawfully chooses.

Fingerprinting Services

Monday through Friday (8:00 AM to 3:30 PM), every 20 minutes (by appointment only). You must bring one money order ($70 for the City of Bridgeport) for Pistol Permit applicants only. All fingerprint fees are paid online to the State Of Connecticut prior to receiving fingerprinting bar code. Also, no permit applications will be accepted unless all documents are complete and together. NEW: Prior to arriving at the Bridgeport Police Department to be fingerprinted you must complete a pre-enrollment with the state Connecticut Criminal History Request System (CCHRS). Click this link to pre-enroll (CCHRS). Use service code 2C4C-1DA9 where requested. (Note: This service code is only for pistol permits. For the appropriate service code for the permit you are applying for, see the complete list below.) Pay the $88.25 fee online and then print out the pre-enrollment form. You will be required to bring this form and your drivers license with you to your appointment when fingerprinted. Please do not forget to bring your barcode.

Note: We are not accepting fingerprints done from outside sources and locations. If applying for a temporary pistol permit, fingerprints must be conducted at the Bridgeport Police Department.

  • For further information on fingerprinting services call 203-581-5201 during the normal hours of operation (8:00 AM to 3:30 PM).
  • Fingerprinting services are available for work-related background checks, motor vehicle commercial operator’s license, immigration, pistol permits, and sexual offender registration.   • By law, a sexual offender has only a five-day period within which to register.
  • The Fee for a Pistol Permits is $70.00 paid by money order or bank check.
  • The fee for fingerprinting for a pistol permit is paid online (when state barcode is processed) Please pick up Pistol Permit Application package at the Front Desk of the Bridgeport Police Department, 300 Congress Street, Bridgeport, CT 06604.
