On Saturday, July 24, we lost two of our City’s Bravest during a fire at 41 Elmwood Ave.  Firefighter Lt. Steven Velasquez and Firefighter Michel Baik dedicated their lives to the Bridgeport Fire Department and to our City. They were well-liked and highly regarded by their fellow firefighters and by members of the community. Lt. Velasquez and Firefighter Baik made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and for that we will always honor and remember them. We mourn their passing, and we all share in the grief felt by their families, loved ones and fellow firefighters. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.

Bridgeport Firefighter Local 834, with the support of Fire Chief Rooney, has established the Bridgeport Fallen Firefighters Fund to help support the Baik and Velasquez families during their time of need. On Friday the 30th, there will be a Congregation of Firefighters, a service open to all firefighters at the Arena at Harbor Yard, 600 Main Street in Bridgeport.
