An Electrical Permit is required for electrical components, equipment and systems used in buildings or structures, per Connecticut State Building Code. This includes, but is not limited to, all wiring associated with alarms, utilities, elevators, exhaust hoods, refrigeration, and duct systems.
Application for an Electrical Permit
Specific work is EXEMPT from any Building permit.
NOTE: No permit will be issued by the Building Department if there are outstanding property tax or WPCA collections. Contact the Building Department two (2) days prior to filing permit for verification purposes.
Supporting Documentation:
- A completed application with an original signature (in ink).
- You must apply for permits IN PERSON. If the license holder is sending a representative, the representative must have: an ORIGINAL letter of authorization, signed by the license holder on letterhead from the license holder, naming a specific person authorized to obtain the permit, with a copy of the license holder's license, and proper identification.
- Copy of current State Occupational License, required.
- Two (2) complete sets of plans and specifications:
- Architect or Engineer seal and signature required per State Building Code, Section 107.6.
- Fire Marshal’s prior approval is required for: fire protection, fire alarm, exhaust hood, fuel tank permit application and plans.
