The Bridgeport Health and Social Services Department has been playing a big role in emergency preparedness and response planning efforts for over 10 years. The Bridgeport MRC unit is recognized as part of the White House’s USA Freedom Corps initiative and the Department of Homeland Security’s Citizen Corps. Our goals are to recruit medical and non-medical volunteers with various skills to assist the health department during public health emergencies and during times of community needs.
Although "medical" is in our name, membership is NOT limited to medical personnel. Current MRC members include individuals with various skills such as customer service skills from various professions, organizational skills, retired or practicing physicians, nurses, public health professionals, pharmacists, emergency medical technicians, and more. Whatever skills you bring, chances are we could use them in our MRC unit!
