What I need to know to Join the BEST—Bridgeport Police Department
Q: How do I get an application?
A: Applications for the position of Bridgeport Police Training Recruit are only available after the announcement of the scheduled written examination. Interested candidates can go to PoliceApp.com and apply here (new as of June 21st, 2022). Click Here!

Q: What are your educational requirements?
A: All candidates must have a high school diploma or GED to apply. However, advanced education is encouraged.
Q: How long is the training?
The Academy is currently approximately six to seven months long. Recruits drive to the Academy during the week. When you are in the Academy, you are an employee of the City of Bridgeport and you will get paid while attending training.

Q: If I am a law enforcement officer for another agency, will the Bridgeport Police Department allow me to do a lateral transfer without going through the Bridgeport Police Training Academy?
A: YES. Bridgeport Training Academy would require a modified refresher to review policies specific to the Bridgeport Police Department.
