Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim, CAO Janene Hawkins, Medical Director Geeti, Acting Deputy Director of Health Operations Tammy Papa and City Council President Aidee Nieves joined to launch the primary COVID-19 City of Bridgeport vaccination site at the DPH Clinic on the City’s East Side, 752 East Main Street.

Mayor Ganim who attended the clinic in advance stated, “We are happy to announce the first day of vaccinations being distributed in the City of Bridgeport. Of course, it’s available to individuals that qualify in Phase 1a but as soon as we receive guidance from the State, we’ll continue distribution as fast and as much as we can. The goal is to save lives. I’ll get the vaccine when I qualify and I hope you will too.”

CAO Hawkins stated, “This is a great day for the City of Bridgeport and our Health Department.  We have all been on the similar journey dealing with the impact that COVID-19 has had on our nation, and our own community.  Today we are very excited to announce that our communicable disease clinic is open, fully operational and providing health protection for our community – the COVID vaccine. We are now on our journey of recovery and wellness.”

Acting Deputy Director of Health Operation Tammy Papa stated, “Like other agencies across the state, we are awaiting additional information from the State of Connecticut as to when we can begin to offer vaccines to our critical workforce and frontline employees, which are expected to be classified under Phase 1b and 1c. We will make every effort to keep our residents and employees informed of updates.”

City of Bridgeport community partners and healthcare centers such as Southwest and Optimus, Yale’s Bridgeport Hospital and Hartford Healthcare - St. Vincent’s have already begun the vaccination process. Currently, the Phase 1a individuals that are receiving the vaccine are first responders of the Bridgeport Police and Fire departments, health care providers, and residents of long-term care facilities such as Bridgeport’s Northbridge Healthcare.

Next week, the City of Bridgeport will join the state of CT’s efforts and launch a localized COVID vaccination awareness campaign that will educate and update our Bridgeport residents of the vaccination process, FAQS, registrations, and other important information.
