Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim joined Mayors from around the world for a conversation with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.  Hosted by the Strong Cities Network (SCN) and the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM), the meeting focused on how compassion can create peaceful societies as well as universal human values and a sense of oneness during times of crisis.

Mayor Ganim stated, “It was an honor last evening to join Mayors from around the world for a discussion with the Dalai Lama. The message was warm and reassuring as we are in the midst of these challenging times. His message was one of unity -- we’re all the same, and we’re all one. As Mayors that serve around the world, he asked that we carry his message of unity and compassion.”

“The major problem is our own creation. There is too much emphasis on the individual; myself, my family, my community, my religion, and so on.” stated His Holiness the Dalai Lama.  “Now, human beings on this planet, we should act as one family.”

The Strong Cities Network works with more than 145 cities to help mount city-led responses against hate, polarization and extremism in all its forms and ensure no city faces these threats alone. The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official non-partisan organization of cities in the United States with populations of 30,000 or more.
