Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim and members of the Police Department joined to announce that the City of Bridgeport has been awarded a $700,000 federal grant to improve investigations and prosecutions of gun-related crimes to protect our community and reduce gun violence. 

“This grant funding is a big win for our city and all efforts to reduce violent crimes and increase public safety initiatives,” stated Mayor Ganim.  “Having the security technology in our city is imperative to support our officers in conducting comprehensive investigations that will lead to successful prosecution of violent offenders and ultimately remove guns from our neighborhoods.”

The program will enhance the police department’s ability to investigate and then prosecute gun-related crimes. These efforts will be in collaboration with the state, local and federal partners including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Assistant US Attorney’s Office (AUSA).

Funds from this grant will be used to purchase Crime Gun Intelligence Center technology, an expansion of ShotSpotter, new ShotSpotter technology, as well as access to the network system administered by ATF that will assist police officers in solving firearms related violent crimes. This technology will upgrade the Department’s Fusion Center to improve response time and bolster the collection of ballistic evidence for investigations brought to prosecution.
