Bridgeport, CT – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Bridgeport’s Finance Department for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2021. The award was presented to the Finance Department on December 22, 2022, making this the fifteenth year the award was granted to them.

In 1945, the GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program to encourage state and local governments to exceed the minimum requirements of accounting principles when preparing annual financial reports. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting for a fiscal year. The City of Bridgeport’s financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program. According to the GFOA, reports should demonstrate a “spirit of full disclosure” top clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the report.

Mayor Ganim stated: “I’m pleased to hear that our Finance Department has once again been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association. I applaud the Finance Department for its utmost dedication to achieving high standards in financial reporting and commend everyone for their unwavering hard work.”

The City of Bridgeport Finance Department has also received a clean audit at the end of December for the fiscal year of 2022 Annual Comprehensive Financial Statements with no items of concern from the independent auditors.
