Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport’s Health Department is currently coordinating a series of events that highlight the significance of youth in the City being prepared for any oncoming emergent situations. Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) teaches youth about various kinds of emergencies and disasters that are relevant to our area. STEP covers an array of ways to smoothen transitions into emergencies such as developing and maintaining a communication plan, components of an ideal emergency preparedness kit, and other safety tips.

The program has been developed to cater to 4th and 5th graders in Bridgeport, with STEP making visits to different schools until the first week of June 2023 to speak with youth during 30-minute sessions. Students will receive a starter emergency kit and handouts to take home during the sessions.

“The Student Tools for Emergency Planning program is a very helpful program for our students to be able to participate in and I’m grateful that they have the opportunity to receive this kind of information,” stated Mayor Ganim. “During emergency situations, it’s important to let our children know that we can get through times of crisis if we all prepare together.”
