2026 Milling & Paving

The City of Bridgeport is pleased to announce the start of the start of the 2026 citywide street milling and paving. Residents and motorists are advised to be patient and cautious due to uneven road surfaces, to expect minor delays during this process. Milling and paving will typically take place Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM. Please note that all schedules are weather-dependent and/or subject to change. 

Milling vehicle is removing the top layer of asphalt on a road.

Street Milling:

Milling is the first step of the street paving process. It involves removing the top layer of the existing asphalt road surface to prepare for a new layer of asphalt of the road. The depth of the milling can vary depending on the condition of the road.

What to Expect: After milling drivers and pedestrians should be cautious of uneven road surfaces and raised manhole covers, which will be highlighted with bright paint for visibility.

Street Paving:

Paving follows milling and involves laying a new layer of asphalt on the road. That asphalt is compacted using a heavy roller to ensure a smooth, durable and level surface.

What to Expect: There may be minor delays while and after a road has been paved. We recommend using alternative routes and allowing for additional travel time when possible.

Important Reminders for Residents and Drivers During Milling and Paving:

  • No Parking Signs: "No Parking" signs will be posted 24 hours prior to milling or paving. This area will be strictly enforced, and vehicles in violation will be towed.
  • Detour Signs: Detour routes will be posted. Please follow the signage and allow for extra time to reach your destination.
  • Raised Manholes: Watch for elevated structures such as manhole covers or drainage basins, until paving is completed.
  • Uneven Surfaces: Roads may have an uneven texture with a different elevation than other roads. Residents and drivers should be cautious and reduce speed.
