Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim and The City of Bridgeport Sustainability Office would like to wish all Bridgeport residents a joyous celebration for this year’s Earth Day on April 22, 2025, and Arbor Day on April 25, 2025. As many communities come together to celebrate and recognize the importance of healthy, sustainable, and resilient places, this celebration reminds communities of the importance of taking care and leaving behind a better world for the next generation while recognizing the current climate crisis.

The Earth has set a new record almost every year for the hottest year on record and carbon emissions have surpassed a point that humans have ever experienced. In the last year alone, wildfires have destroyed Los Angeles, hurricanes devastate “climate safe havens” in the Carolinas, and in Connecticut, people and towns have been flooded, coupled with wildfires burning across the state. While there are significant challenges ahead, these issues can be overcome by taking part in various sustainability and climate resiliency initiatives.

Mayor Ganim stated, “I want to thank the countless partners, community residents, volunteers and non-profits that are committed to improving the health, sustainability, and environment in Bridgeport every day. From tree planting, to creating waterfront access, to farming; you are not only improving Bridgeport’s environment every day, but you are also helping us prepare for and address the impacts of climate change. As the Mayor of a community on the frontlines of the climate crisis, it is paramount that we find ways to ensure our most vulnerable residents will be taken care of and can weather whatever storm may come. I am grateful for the partnerships and collaborations that are making Bridgeport’s environment healthy and accessible to our residents, while also addressing the impacts of climate change.”

The City encourages all residents this Earth Day to take time to connect with the Earth, plant a tree, talk to a neighbor about starting a garden, or plant pollinator-friendly plants. As Earth Day celebrations are underway, residents are also invited to visit the City of Bridgeport’s FacebookInstagram, and X (formerly known as Twitter) pages for information on Earth Day events, specifically the City’s Seaside Park Tree Walk on April 26, 2025.
