The Sanitation Division is responsible for the weekly residential curbside collection and transportation of all general household solid waste in the City in compliance with all applicable City, State and Federal health, environmental, and safety regulations to a regional intermediate processing center.

 

Green toters are for Household Garbage securely tied in plastic bags.

What You Can Put In:

  • Bagged household garbage
  • Shredded paper
  • Styrofoam
  • Bagged dog waste

All trash must be securely tied in plastic bags. The lid must fully close.

Do Not Place in Green Toters:

  • Loose garbage
  • Hazardous or medical waste
  • Flammable materials
  • Fluorescent bulbs or tubes
  • Yard debris (leaves, grass, dirt, brush)
  • Paint or any liquids
  • Bulky items (furniture, mattresses, etc.)
  • Recyclables (paper, cans, bottles, cardboard)
  • Helium or propane tanks
  • Construction debris

The Recycling Division is responsible for bi-weekly collection and transportation of residential household recyclable materials to a regional intermediate processing center. The residential recycling collection schedule is on the same day as household trash but every other week. 

 

Blue toters are for Recyclables items Only. No plastic bags.

Acceptable Recyclables:

  • Paper (newspaper, mail, office paper)
  • Aluminum (cans, foil, pans)
  • Cardboard (flattened)
  • Cereal and beverage boxes (smooth cardboard)
  • Plastic bottles, jars, tubs, and jugs
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Paper bags

Rinse food containers before placing them in the recycling toter.

Items Not Accepted for Recycling:

  • Plastic bags, utensils, cups or plates
  • Pane glass
  • Lightbulbs
  • Aerosol cans
  • Pump spray nozzles
  • Bottle caps or lids
  • Batteries
  • Wax-coated paper
  • Chemical containers
  • Styrofoam
  • Helium or propane tanks
  • Food-soiled cardboard
  • Motor oil or hazardous chemicals
  • Household garbage

Report a Missed Trash Pickup:

•    Email the Sanitation Supervisors directly:

•    If not reported in time, bring your trash to the Transfer Station at: 475 Asylum Street


Common Reasons for Missed Pickup:
•    Trash was not placed out on the correct day
•    Toter was not curbside the night before pickup
•    Collection canceled due to weather or emergency
•    Toter was blocked or not visible
•    Non-conforming containers used
•    Toter was contaminated with unaccepted items
•    Toter was too heavy or overfilled
•    Trash was loose or unbagged
•    Items placed outside the toter
