Public Comment Schedule

The City Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month except in May when there shall be an additional regular meeting on the second Monday of the month. During the months of July and August annually, and during November of each odd-numbered (municipal election) year, the regular meetings of the city council shall be held on the first Monday of each said month. Meetings commence at 7:00 p.m. with the public speaking portion beginning at 6:30 p.m. 

Requirements to request permission to address the City Council

Pursuant to Section 2.02.050  of the Municipal Code, anyone who is a resident, taxpayer or representative of a city-based organization or company who is speaking on behalf of the organization or company may be eligible to address the City Council of Bridgeport. 

Persons wishing to provide public comment shall follow the following procedure:

1. Speakers can sign up by completing the form below. Alternatively, the speaker can sign up in person by delivering request in writing to the City Clerk's Office.

2. In order to be added to the list of speakers, an individual must provide their name, address (No P.O. Boxes), organization or company name representing, telephone number, email address, subject matter, and date of City Council Meeting at which you are requesting to speak.

3. Speaking Request are taken on a first come first serve basis and must be received by the City Clerk's Office no later than the Wednesday preceding the City Council meeting. 

5. A total of ten speakers are permitted at each meeting. Each speaker is allocated three minutes to speak.

6. Speakers that meet the above requirements are allowed to sign up at 6:30 p.m. on the evening of the council meeting if all ten slots have not been previously scheduled or in the event that a previously scheduled speaker fails to be present at the start of the Public Hearing Forum. 

7.  If there is back-up information you wish to submit to the City Council, please email to city.clerk@bridgeportct.gov. The back-up information provided is public record. 

8. You will receive an email confirmation informing you of the status of your request prior to the scheduled City Council meeting date. 

SUBSITITUE SPEAKERS WILL NOT  BE PERMITTED, EXCEPT IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

REQUEST MUST BE DELIVERED TO THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE IN WRITING OR SUBMITTED ONLINE BY GOING TO THE ONLINE FORM

Sign-up to Speak

Online Form. If you wish to sign up online for the Public Speaking Forum, you may sign up in advance by using the online form below.  You are required to sign up by 4:30 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the meeting. 

Please note: If slots are full for your desired date to speak, then your request will automatically be forwarded to the next available date, please contact the City Clerk's Office with any questions.
