Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport’s Department of Parks and Recreation has begun construction within Went Field Park to provide improvements to its playground area. Construction to the playground was initiated on October 10, 2023, and is set to be completed by November 17, 2023, if the weather permits. Improvements to the playground include the installation of newly enhanced playground equipment, benches, fencing, new plantings, and signage to be placed at the playground. The reconstruction of the playground is heavily inspired by the influence of the Barnum Circus and the historical role it plays within the City. A playground apparatus will reference a circus tent with the addition of various playground animals for children to enjoy.

“It’s very fascinating to know that another one of our parks is receiving all improvements necessary to best serve the residents and children in our City,” stated Mayor Ganim. “Although this project will be complete during one of the colder seasons of the year, my hope is that these new playground improvements will serve the community well. Our children deserve fresh and safe equipment to enjoy, and I want to thank our Department of Parks and Recreation for being committed to such a meaningful project.”

Construction to the park has been occurring on a Monday-Saturday basis until the expected date of its completion. At this time, residents are encouraged not to visit this portion of Went Field Park as it will be closed for construction.
