Demolition Permits are required to demolish any building, structure, or part thereof, per the Connecticut State Building Code. These permits are valid for 30 days from date is issuance.
NOTE: A Demolition Delay form should be filed with the Zoning Department prior to application for a Demolition Permit, as a 90-day delay may be enforced.
Supporting documentation:
- Copy of current demolition license issued by the State of CT, and insurance certificate
- General Liability, Vehicles, and Workers’ Compensation – Name City of Bridgeport as Co-Insured
- Copy of Demolition Contract with owner of property
- Demolition Release Form – properly notarized
- Declaration Letter – on company letterhead, signed by an authorized company officer explicitly stating:
“In accordance with CGS 29-406 we (contractor) hereby agree to save harmless the City of Bridgeport and it’s agents from any claim or claims arising out of the negligence of the applicant or his agents or employees in the course of the demolition operations associated with (project title, address)"
- Proof of notice letters to adjoining property owners
- Copy of letters
- Certified mail receipts
- Information about the building to be demolished: correct address, number of dwelling units, number of stories
- Dumping location and verification of acceptance of demolition debris (letter from dump location)
- Refer to CT Materials Reuse Network for additional resources
- Required approvals prior to applying for the Building Permit, including
- Fire Hydrant Permit for dust control, or a letter on company letterhead stating how dust will be controlled
- Disconnect Notices from all utilities
